Built for Municipal and Wastewater Applications

XS-S Series pumps are self-priming, solids-handling pumps used in municipal and wastewater applications. Their self-priming design allows the pump to be installed above the liquid being pumped, helping keep inspection and maintenance access outside the wet well.

The large volute design supports automatic repriming in a completely open system without the need for suction or discharge check valves.

Typical applications include:

  • Municipal wastewater
  • Sewage handling
  • Solids-laden liquids
  • Slurries
  • Industrial wastewater

Solids-Handling Impeller Design

XS-S Series pumps use a two-vane, semi-open solids-handling impeller. Pump-out vanes on the impeller shroud help reduce foreign-material buildup behind the impeller while reducing pressure on the seal and bearings.

The XS-S Series includes 3-, 4-, 6-, and 8-inch models. All Prime states that its self-priming pumps handle solids up to 3 inches in diameter depending on pump model, and pumps 4 inches and larger are designed to allow up to 3-inch spherical solids to pass through critical areas of the pump.

Rotating assembly and cartridge seal

Designed for Easier Maintenance

Because XS-S Series pumps are self-priming, they can be mounted above the liquid being pumped. Primary wear components can be accessed through the removable clean-out cover, allowing service to be performed without disconnecting the pump from the piping. Accessible components include:

  • Impeller
  • Mechanical seal
  • Wear plate
  • Check-valve flapper

The rotating assembly can also be removed without disturbing the pump volute or piping. Pusher bolts assist with removal, and a spare rotating assembly can be installed to help reduce downtime.

The mechanical cartridge seal is a double-floating, self-aligning, oil-lubricated assembly designed to simplify seal service and replacement while maintaining proper alignment.

External Shimless Adjustment

All XS-S Series models use a four-point, external, shimless impeller-to-wear-plate clearance adjustment located at the back cover assembly, or clean-out cover.

This design allows impeller-to-wear-plate clearance to be adjusted externally as wear occurs.

The feature is used on the XS-3S, XS-4S, XS-6S, and XS-8S.
